Basal dose

The right dose of basal insulin will keep the blood glucose level roughly stable overnight (within 30–40 mg/dL from bedtime to wake-up time). If blood glucose increases >30 mg/dL or >1.6 mmol/L overnight, an increase in basal may be needed, while a decrease of >30 mg/dL or >1.6 mmol/L would indicate that basal should be lowered.
