What is A1C?

An A1C is a blood test that shows the average blood glucose levels over the prior three months. A non-diabetic A1C level is 4–5.7%. Most people with diabetes should aim for an A1C of <7.5% (in a child) or <7.0% (in an adult who is not pregnant).

A1C targets often change over time, sometimes decreasing and sometimes increasing.

Each person with type 1 diabetes should have their own personal A1C goal.
