Vaccine Prioritization

While specific decisions for prioritizing who receives a COVID-19 vaccine are up to states and countries, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) under the CDC has put forth recommendations that most local governments are following:

Phase 1a

  • Health care personnel
  • Residents of long-term care facilities

Phase 1b

  • Non–healthcare frontline essential workers
  • Persons aged 75 and older

Phase 1c

  • Persons aged 65–74 years
  • Persons aged 16–64 years with high-risk medical conditions
  • Essential workers not included in Phase 1b

State Specific Prioritization

The Kaiser Family Foundation is tracking how different states are defining high-risk medical conditions, including type 1 diabetes. As of February 16, 2021, 22 states considers T1D a high-risk medical condition, 12 consider it not one, and the rest of unclear or information is unavailable. Use their charts to see the different state definitions.
