While specific decisions for prioritizing who receives a COVID-19 vaccine are up to states and countries, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) under the CDC has put forth recommendations that most local governments are following:
Phase 1a
- Health care personnel
- Residents of long-term care facilities
Phase 1b
- Non–healthcare frontline essential workers
- Persons aged 75 and older
Phase 1c
- Persons aged 65–74 years
- Persons aged 16–64 years with high-risk medical conditions
- Essential workers not included in Phase 1b
