Grant applicants must be individuals and not organizations, corporations, entities, institutions, or partnerships (either for-profit or non-profit).
Grants are only awarded to projects that aim to create educational, community-building events. Projects that will not be considered include, but are not limited to, advocating for a political candidate or party; distributing or exchanging medical supplies; creating for-profit programs or products; funding research; creating medical devices or medications; and fundraising for individuals or non-profits. If you have questions about the eligibility of a project, please contact the Beta Cell Foundation before submitting an application. The Beta Cell Foundation is the final arbiter of whether a project is suitable for a grant.
Grant recipients cannot profit from their grant-funded project. This includes, but is not limited to, proceeds from a book or film; money awarded from a competition; selling a service or product; and compensation for time spent working on the project. If the Beta Cell Foundation learns a grant recipient has profited from their grant-funded project, the Beta Cell Foundation reserves the right to institute legal proceedings to recover all grant monies provided to the grant recipient.
Grant applicants cannot be currently serving on the Beta Cell Foundation Board of Directors or its Advisory Board. Once their term has expired, they are eligible to apply for a grant.
Grant recipients are required to take a minimum of four photos of the project in progress be sent to the Beta Cell Foundation before the grant is distributed. If photos are shared on social media, they must include the text “This project was made possible by a grant from the Beta Cell Foundation.” Post on social media must tag the Beta Cell Foundation’s social media handle.
Grants are awarded only once a project is completed and documentation of completed project is submitted to the Beta Cell Foundation. Grants will only be awarded for an amount up to, but not exceeding, the amount requested in the application that is used in completing the project. Itemized receipts of all expenses to be covered by the grant are required for reimbursement. Only itemized receipts used for the project described in the application will be reimbursed; receipts unrelated to the project will not be reimbursed. If the total of the itemized receipts is less than the amount requested in the application, the additional funds will not be awarded.
