FAQs

What is T1Ds in the Wild?
T1Ds in the Wild is an immersive outdoor experience for adults living with T1D to help remove the barriers we face in benefiting from the outdoors. Learn more about the program here.

Do I need camping experience?
No, if you’ve never camped before and want to learn how, we’ll teach you some camping basics! If you’re a seasoned camper, you’re welcome to share your tips and experiences.

Do I need to own a tent?
Also no! To make our trips more accessible, if you don’t have a tent, sleeping bag, or sleeping bad, we can provide one for you. You’ll need to bring your own diabetes management supplies and personal items like clothes and toiletries (see this list).

Do I have to sleep on the ground?
Yep, that’s why it’s not T1Ds in the Hotel.

What will we on at a diabetes camping trip?
Introductory outdoor rock climbing, hiking, camp cooking, mental health discussions, and much more!

Is this free camping trip actually free?
It is free! We only charge a $50 reservation fee to hold your spot, which we refund after the trip (unless you want to donate it for our future trips).

I don’t need to bring food?
We supply the food, water, and dinnerware for the weekend. But feel free to bring your favorite snacks (and even better if you bring some to share!).

Can I bring a partner who doesn’t have T1D?
Part of the magic of our camping trips is the intimate “nature” of it, which means we have very limited spots available for attendees. Because of that, we limit the trip to only people with T1D.

How do I get to camp?
Everyone is responsible for their transportation to camp. We will connect campers ahead of time and we encourage everyone to carpool in order to reduce emissions and limit the number of cars at the campsite.

Who is leading this trip?
Our camping trips are led by Paul Reid, Nina Ragonese, and Craig Stubing. You can find bios of them here.
